BIOMECHANICS, A TOOL FOR SOCIAL ORTHODONTICS
The economic and cultural situation of the most vulnerable population leads to very serious oral health conditions. With the aim of helping them recover their oral health, a multidisciplinary treatment should be carried out, where orthodontics plays a leading role. Despite the great technological advances in orthodontics, the application of biomechanical concepts becomes the main treatment tool in these complicated cases.

Elsa Arango, DDS is an associated professor of orthodontics department at UniCIEO University. She graduated and completed orthodontic training at UniCIEO University. Currently, clinical professor at UniCIEO University as well as an invited professor of orthodontics at CTOR University in New York. She published a book, Anatomy and Biomechanics applied to Skeletal Anchorages in Orthodontics and several papers and book chapters in the field of anatomy and biomechanics. She has carried out clinical and scientific research in the area of skeletal anchorages and biomechanics, and gives many lectures around the world on skeletal anchorages and anatomy and maintains a private practice in Bogota, Colombia. She is currently Biomede president.
